The CIETAC Arbitrators Jiangsu Forum was held in Nanjing Central Hotel on July 19, 2014. Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC, and more than 10 CIETAC arbitrators originally from Jiangsu province attended the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Xiao Tiejun, Vice President of CCPIT Jiangsu Sub-Council.

Yu Jianlong pointed out in his speech at the Forum that, after decades of development, CIETAC has earned a lot of trust and praise from both Chinese and foreign parties, but we should not be complacent with the current achievements and need to further give play to our advantages and carry forward the spirits of CIETAC. Arbitration is one of service industries. Only by excellent service and fair, efficient case handling mechanism can we win the trust from the parties. Cases handled by CIETAC are usually complicated which requires more skilled and outstanding arbitrators. Arbitrators are the core of the CIETAC and have key bearings on its success. Arbitrators shoulder a sacred mission and significant responsibilities. Arbitrators need to learn more and learn from each other, and improve the ability of handling cases fairly. Yu Jianlong also introduced case acceptance and handling, oral hearing reform, and institutional reform of CIETAC last year and in the first half of this year.

Arbitrators present at the meeting put forward their suggestions on CIETAC’s practice and development based on their own experience. Everyone agreed that CIETAC is the best and fairest arbitration agency recognized by Chinese and foreign parties. Being appointed as a CIETAC arbitrator is an honor. They will earnestly perform their duties and live up to the honor. The participants also believe that faced with competition from arbitration institutions at home and abroad, CIETAC should make greater publicity and introduce the characteristics and advantages of the CIETAC to more corporate clients, improve the knowledge of companies about arbitration and CIETAC. Some arbitrators gave their suggestions on further improving the efficiency of arbitral proceedings and reforming the method of the calculation of arbitration fees. These comments and inputs will be studied by CIETAC in the future.

The Forum was hosted by CIETAC Jiangsu Liaison Office. Representatives of Legal Department of CCPIT Jiangsu Sub-Council and CIETAC Jiangsu Liaison Office attended the Forum.
