On July 31, 2014, the CIETAC delegation led by Vice Chairman and Secretary-General Yu Jianlong visited the Law Society of Hong Kong and had talks with President Ambrose S.K. LAM, Vice President Thomas S.T. SO and Secretary-General Heidi K.P. CHU of the Society. The CIETAC delegation includes Wang Wenying, Secretary-General of CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, Li Xiaoguang, Secretary General of the South-China Office of the Secretariat, Yao Junyi, Director of the Supervision and Coordination Division, etc.

Mr. Yu Jianlong introduced the renewal of CIETAC Panel of Arbitrators and the development and innovation of CIETAC arbitration business since 2014. Mr. Yu thanked the Law Society of Hong Kong for their long-lasting support and expressed his hope for closer ties with the Society to promote the development of the arbitration business in Hong Kong. Mr. Yu Jianlong also discussed the plan to set up the CMAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center, which would fill the gap of maritime arbitration in Hong Kong and level up the strength and status of Hong Kong as a maritime arbitration center.

President Ambrose S.K. LAM and Vice President Thomas S.T. SO said the setting up of the CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center opened up opportunities for the lawyers circle in Hong Kong and strengthened the competence of Hong Kong as a world arbitration center. CIETAC Hong Kong Arbitration Center has become a part of arbitration business in Hong Kong and will play a big role in the industry. CIETAC could draw upon the experience in mainland China and all over the world to provide quality services to clients.

During the talk, both sides agreed that they should pool together talents from mainland and Hong Kong, organize more well-tailored training and business development, make a louder voice on the international arena, and play a bigger role in the international commercial arbitration industry so as to better protect the rights of the Chinese investors.
